Students at work: Anouk de Weger (Leiden University) 2015-2016

Anouk de Weger performed her 2nd MSc internship (specialisation ‘Animal biology and disease models’ at Leiden University) within the team of Sabine Spijker , with Danai Riga and Maija Koskinen as her daily supervisors from September 2015 until June 2016. She contributed with her experiments to a manuscript that is now under revision and on which she is a co-author. Anouk analysed whether there was any change in terms of excitatory and inhibitory input on parvalbumin-positive interneurons in the hippocampus CA1 in rats that underwent the social defeat-induced persistent stress (SDPS) model of persistent depression. In addition she quantified perineuronal nets and analysed changes in glial cells in the mouse version of the SDPS model.
